Former SKID ROW/SAIGON KICK Drummer Is Subject Of 'Waking Up Dead' Documentary
January 18, 2005Film And Music Entertainment, Inc. announced today that it has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the documentary "Waking Up Dead". The gripping and gritty feature-length documentary by nine-time regional Emmy Award winner Fabio Jafet follows the life of Phil Varone, former drummer for the rock bands SAIGON KICK and SKID ROW. Filmed over four years, "Waking Up Dead" documents the highs and lows of the underground, alternative and heavy metal worlds and how they conspire to destroy the families, careers and the very lives of the rock musicians on whom they depend.
Producer-director Fabio Jafet stated, "I am truly delighted to have the visionary behind 'Terminator' and 'Platoon', John Daly, and his staff at Film and Music Entertainment involved in our project. 'Waking Up Dead' has the potential of touching millions of lives, and just maybe, changing some of them for the better."
Drummer Phil Varone, co-producer and the musician whose life the film chronicles, added, "For all of those people over the years who have asked about the glamour of the rock and roll life, the unvarnished answer is 'Waking Up Dead'!"
Lawrence Lotman, V.P. Finance of FLME said, "'Waking Up Dead' is a true and compelling look at the corrupting influence of fame. Masterfully shot and edited by Fabio Jafet, it is a deeply engrossing, human story that deserves to be seen."
The film will be distributed domestically by FLME subsidiary Celebration Pictures, Inc., and foreign distribution will be through Celebration International Pictures.
